Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences is supported by professors of excellence and committed to the mission of the university and the generation of strong study programs in each of their subjects.
Undergraduate students are in an interdisciplinary environment which brings together the perspectives of psychology, sociology and social work, disciplines that are articulated through a common plan which covers the first 4 years of training and it is developed in parallel to the specific plan of each career.

Likewise, the faculty has strong links with the community through three Study and Services Centres: the International Institute for Cognitive Development, the Centre for Social Studies and the Counseling Centre; allowing community outreach, as well as specific initiatives to strengthen dialogue with academia within and outside the country.

The programs offered by this faculty are:

  • Psychology: our students receive the training tools that they need to apply theories, discipline techniques. Other social sciences are also considered such as research and individual evaluation, group and community conditions and situations. It guides students actions - individually and in teams - to the search for understanding and development of individuals, groups, communities and organizations with social sensitivity, pluralistic attitude and attention to the problems of the country. The program allows the professional training in: clinical psychology, work and organizational psychology, and educational psychology.

  • Sociology: discipline with a scientific and critical view giving its students the tools they need to understand and respect the political, technological, economic and socio-cultural contemporary society, contributing to the welfare of individuals and communities. Students of sociology at UCEN are protagonists of their own professional development, due to the fact that from the early years they have the opportunity to participate in research projects and also in the Center for Social Studies and Public Opinion (Cesop) of the Central University. Their research is an important benchmark for today's Chilean society.

  • Social Work: this school trains social science professionals with an ethical hallmark and appreciation for humans and their ways of life, embracing diversity and making a permanent commitment to collaboration and solidarity with the realities experienced by the individual in society and influence in its possibilities for development. The school is built on a program aimed to critical social thought, which allows the future social worker to have the skills required to function in a highly complex world, as well as intervene effectively with professional and ethical criteria in different situations.
